Italian seasoning is one of my favorite herby blends that I always have stored in my pantry. It’s easy to make with six dried herbs and perfect for giving meats, seafood, and veggies incredible Italian flavor.

Why You’ll Love This Italian Seasoning
If there’s one seasoning blend I always have in my spice drawer, it’s this Italian seasoning. It’s herbaceous, aromatic, and adds the perfect punch of Italian flavor to classic recipes like meatballs, stuffed peppers, Zuppa Toscana, and roast chicken. You can also make the best homemade Italian dressing with this seasoning and olive oil! Sure, you can buy Italian seasoning at the store, but here’s why I always make my own seasonings:
- There are no fillers or additives. You can never be too sure what other ingredients store-bought seasoning blends have.
- It stores well. Even though it will last up to one year, it always gets used up quickly with how much Mediterranean cooking I do!

Italian Seasoning Ingredients
- Dried oregano, thyme, basil, rosemary, and marjoram: This is the essential mix for a classic Italian seasoning that’s beautifully earthy and aromatic.
- Dried sage: Although this is optional, it adds a grounding herbal note and is especially nice if you plan to use the seasoning for poultry or stuffing. Make sure to use rubbed sage instead of ground sage—it has more texture and won’t sink to the bottom of the jar!

How To Make Italian Seasoning
- Mix the spices. Add all the spices to a small mixing bowl and stir them together.
- Use immediately or store away. Use this Italian seasoning as you make it, or store it in an airtight container for future use. I usually double the seasoning and store it in these glass spice jars using a kitchen funnel. It will last up to one year (assuming your dried herbs were fresh to begin with).
